Description: True ikats have the pattern hand dyed into the warp, making the fabric a truly handmade work of art. This textile is created in those same time honored techniques that have been in place since ancient times. The design is first drawn onto stretched out sections of the warp. Areas of the warps are then wrapped with yarn to keep them from being dyed. The section that is not wrapped is then dip dyed by hand. The warps dry, are unwrapped, and the rewrapped in other areas to apply another color. This is repeated over and over until all of the pattern is dyed onto the warp. Keep in mind this woven will contain slubs and knots. These are not considered to be defects, but instead add to the natural beauty of the product. This wonderfully colorful ikat is designed by Martin Lawrence-Bullard, and is woven in India.
